This work is a continuation of the photographic work Subway #1, shot in the Berlin Subway over a year’s time. During this work, I felt especially and distinctly uncomfortable in taking on the photographer’s voyeuristic role, which is why for U-BAHN # 2 I decided for a different approach: Five Camcoders tied to my body, I walked through the trains of the Berlin Subway for five hours – to explore the dual role of observer and of being observed. The resulting DV-material shows five different shots of a place at the same time, in a spatial installation manner. Thus, the work challenges alternative cinematic perception and concepts of observation. The Metro as location and the people present are documented without it being possible to exactly select the perspective or point of capture. The shots depend on the movement and posture of my body.
